Bill Johnson Community Stadium
The Bill Johnson Community Stadium opened on the Foothill High School campus in 2006 after the school moved to Palo Cedro in the fall of 1999. FHS was founded in the 1991-92 school year, and played all of its "home" football games on Thompson Field at our sister school, Shasta High.
Bill Johnson was a long time north state educator and Shasta Union High School District Board member. Mr. Johnson was a great supporter of high school sports, having served as the original "Voice of the Cougars" announcing home football games for several years. In the early 1990s, when educational budgets in California were being stretched to the maximum, high school sports funding was in serious jeopardy. Mr. Johnson stepped in and helped create the Save Our Sports (S.O.S.) organization to rally local support and resources to keep high school sports in our District alive. As an offshoot of that effort, Mr. Johnson was one of the founders and first president of Foothill's Sports Boosters organization. He spent countless hours supporting the school any way he could.

Mr. Johnson passed away in the fall of 2000, just a few short weeks after it was announced that the as yet to be built FHS stadium would be named in his honor.
The voters of our District voiced their support for this project by passing the Measure B school bond initiative in November 2001. Measure B funds have been used to pay for the home side bleachers, while the Shasta Union High School District Board of Trustees approved the funding for the necessary lighting, restroom and visitor seating (Fall 2005). The scoreboard has been funded by donors and advertisers, and the snack bar has been constructed through donation and funds provided by the FHS Sports Boosters.
The opening of the Bill Johnson Community Stadium was a huge addition to the culture and spirit at FHS and could not be named for a more deserving individual.
